In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

IVF is an assisted reproductive technique that is used to treat multiple infertility problems. The treatment involves stimulation of the ovaries to produce multiple eggs, removal of the eggs by a simple outpatient surgical procedure that is performed under intravenous anesthesia, followed by insemination of the eggs with conventional IVF, or through Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI).

The fertilized eggs, or embryos, are grown in the laboratory culture system for several days before being transferred into the uterus. A blood test ten to twelve days following embryo transfer will confirm pregnancy. Extra embryos may be frozen and stored for thawing and transfer at a later time.
